Summer pic

For students who are facing challenges, trying to address those challenges during the school year can prove very challenging. The amount of energy required just to handle daily pressures and meet regular schedules can make addressing deeper issues feel like an impossibility.

The summer, however, is easier. Children are out of school, their energies aren’t divided and neither are those of parents. This can be a golden opportunity to do some serious work on the challenges that are making school so problematic. If parents and students want to take advantage of this summer to address learning and development issues, they should start planning now.

If your child has any of the difficulties listed below then he/she may benefit from one or more of our summer programs:

  • Problems with focus or attention
  • Language Learning Difficulties
  • Often misunderstands what is said
  • Language Learning Difficulties
  • Mispronounces typical word sounds
  • ADHD, Autism, or Asperger's
  • Non-verbal Learning Difficulties
  • Gives slow delayed responses
  • Gets confused in noisy situations
  • Has trouble following directions
  • Has behavior or social issues

GROUPS

Self-Management Social Skills Groups (click for more information)

ELEMENTARY - MIDDLE SCHOOL - HIGHSCHOOL

For children with self-management difficulties, maintaining relationships is not always easy. These children are often impulsive, non-reflective, and have behaviors (such as being aggressive or disruptive) that may irritate others. As a result, children with self-management difficulties may experience social rejection, which in turn, can limit further opportunities to benefit from relationships.

College Transition Program (click for more information)

For College-age students not ready to leave home and be successful. Sutdents will work with Tarnow Center Specialists to develop the necessary skills for independent functioning. Send your student off to school when they are ready to make the most of it. Let us help you get them there!

Launching Groups (click for more information)

Each stage of development requires us to conquer certain challenges before we can move on to our next developmental phase. For adolescents, there are distinct launching points between 8th grade and 9th grade, and again between high school and young adulthood. Our launching groups are designed to assist our clients with these transitions. First we assess where the teen lands in his/her own readiness for the next stagem and then we help them develop the necessary skills to take on the challenge.

QEEG & Neurofeedback

QEEG & Neurofeedback (click for more information)

Neurotherapy is a way to train brainwaves for optimal performance through non-invasive and non-medication measures. Neurotherapy is used to help treat many different problems and diagnoses but it is most often applied to symptoms of ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Depression.

First - with the precise placement of electrodes along the scalp, the functioning of various brain centers can be sampled by an EEG. The wave forms in their amplitude and frequency (size and speed), provide information about how the brain is functioning and how it is within and between each lobe.

Then once the QEEG data on an individual has been collected and analysed, neurofeedback can be used to re-regulate brain function towards more normal patters based upon the data. when given immediate feedback and enough practice, people can correct their dysfunctional brain patterns and fix the problem.
