..................The Series "Denied by Brian Rosenthal has been superb investigative reporting. It reminds us why we need newspapers to do this type of reporting espeically on a local level.

I have been a Child Psychiatrist in Houston for 37 years and have been appalled by the way school districts have denied children with disabilities services. The districts have sneaky methods to do this. The artilces in this series have defined the underlying quota system that has created denial. School systems in the Houston area have bullied my patients, lied to them, delayed evaulations to push parents to go outside the school for services, and even used inappropriate disciplinary methods worsening the student's condition. I have had to help parents hire advocates and attorneys to get their children the services they need and have a right to. This systematic refusal of disabilities has pushed students to drop out and lose faith in our society. This has worsened their diseases and disabilities. Why do our lawmakers not undersstand that this system increases healthcare costs and undermines our country's ability to compete in the world market?
