Lynn Kamara, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who recently moved to Houston and joined the TarnowCenter’s interdisciplinary team after residing and working overseas in Australia and in Thailand. Lynn received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from PrincetonUniversity and her Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work and a Certificate in Urban Leadership from SimmonsCollege in Boston, MA. She also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Negotiation and Conflict Management from the GrahamSchool at the University of Chicago.

Lynn received her clinical training while interning at the Boston Juvenile Court Clinic and at the ManvilleSchool of the Judge Baker Children’s Center, which is a therapeutic day school affiliated with HarvardMedicalSchool. Lynn’s extensive and varied career has its roots in intensive residential treatment centers for children and adolescents in NYC (Leake and Watts), Boston (Beal Street), and in Chicago (SoniaShankmanOrthogenicSchool). Lynn also has private practice experience working internationally with expatriate clients including couples, business executives, diplomats, and trailing spouses and families worldwide.

Relying on a biopsychosocial approach to treatment, Lynn provides holistic and individually tailored care to her clients while drawing from an eclectic array of modalities including psychodynamic, narrative, CBT, ACT, mindfulness, interpersonal neurobiology, and attachment approaches. Lynn enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, infidelity, parenting struggles, relationship conflicts, grief, and phase of life transitions.

Lynn's expertise and special interest is in joining with clients to work with past and presenting traumas and challenges as a means to deepen their connections and create more satisfying and integrated experiences and relationships.

Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist

Dr. Ghayas did her residency training at the Harlem Hospital Center (affiliated with Comumbia University) in New York City, and finished her fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in Geriatric Psychiatry in September of 2011. After residency, Dr. Ghayas was 1 of 3 attending psychiatrists at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas, where she saw patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Her husband is a primary care physician with The Methodist Hospital. she joined the Tarnow Center in 2014, and sees patients at both our Galleria and Sugar Land offices.

Dr. Ghayas evaluates adolescents and adults with emotional and behavioral disturbances, and where indicated, provides medication management. She has a particular interest in treating patients with Depression, ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, and PTSD. She joined the center because she believes in treating the patient from a biopsychosocial approach and is dedicated to mental health education in families, schools, and medical communities.

Melissa Carpentier, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Tarnow Center for Self-Management. Dr. Carpentier received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. She completed an APA and APPIC-approved pre-doctoral internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center/VA Medical Center Consortium in Jackson, MS. Dr. Carpentier spent six years working in academic medical center settings where she engaged in clinical services, research, and teaching. In these settings, she functioned as a member of various multidisciplinary teams working together to achieve common goals. Dr. Carpentier places a high value on a team-based approach and enjoys being part of the multidisciplinary team at the Tarnow Center.

Dr. Carpentier has specific interests and expertise in the area of pediatric psychology, a distinct field that bridges psychology and pediatric health. In this regard, she works with children, adolescents, and their families as it concerns coping and self-management of a range of chronic medical conditions, including diabetes, asthma, and cancer, among others. Because these medical conditions often require adherence to strict medical regimens, Dr. Carpentier works collaboratively with families to develop, implement, and monitor plans to effectively manage multiple aspects of the chronic condition. Her goal is to empower families to manage the illness at hand in order to achieve optimal health and overall well-being.

In addition to managing chronic medical conditions, Dr. Carpentier has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults on issues related to parenting, attention and behavioral difficulties, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, obsessions/compulsions, depression, grief/bereavement, and disordered eating. She also enjoys working with patients of all ages who are interested in making behavioral changes toward increased health promotion and wellness.

Dr. Carpentier utilizes individual, family, and group therapy modalities in her clinical practice. Her conceptualization and therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based cognitive-behavioral techniques, although she often incorporates developmental, family systems, interpersonal, motivational interviewing, and narrative approaches depending on a given client’s unique needs. She also performs comprehensive psychological evaluations to identify and diagnose relevant conditions in order to inform subsequent therapeutic and/or medication treatment as well as recommendations regarding school accommodations.

 

 

 

Meaghan Devlin, M.Ed, BCBA, LBA

 

Meaghan earned a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon, a Masters of Education in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis from Texas A&M University, and is a current doctoral student studying Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University. Meaghan has experience as a teacher abroad and in the US, in both general and special education positions. Through these experiences she saw the need for teachers to be as effective as possible for the benefit of their students and themselves. Her scholarly efforts include supporting pre-service and in-service teachers to use evidence-based strategies in an effort to close the research-to-practice gap. She seeks to do so by teaching, researching, and implementing best practices in teacher preparation and in-service support. Meaghan holds teaching licenses in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (early childhood through sixth grade), special education (early childhood through twelfth grade), and behavior analysis in the state of Texas. She recently served as an intern with the Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs. Meaghan was also a 2023 recipient of the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students Distinguished Graduate Student Award for Teaching for her work in the undergraduate special education program.

 

As a Board Certified Behavior Analysis and educator, Meaghan seeks to affirm and support neurodiverse individuals to reach their fullest potential by designing and implementing effective behavioral and learning programs with the collaboration of families and school personnel. Meaghan works with families, school personnel, and other clinicians to design behavioral and learning programs that are individualized and encourage development through the use of self-management strategies. Meaghan’s varied experiences in clinical and school settings have prepared her to effectively support clients in developing a variety of skills such as academic and pre-academic skills, social skills, time management, task completion, goal setting, organization, planning, study skills, emotional regulation, and other adaptive skills.

 

In addition to working with individual clients on learning and behavioral goals, Meaghan can provide training and coaching for school personnel in supporting individuals with learning differences through inclusive, evidence-based strategies for behavior and learning. She can also provide families support and feedbac through the school Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meeting process.

Melissa M. Gonzalez, Psy.D.

Dr. Gonzalez moved to Houston from Atlanta, Georgia in 2013 and joined the Tarnow Center for Self-Management. She believes that as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, she has the opportunity to provide her clients with a thorough assessment and a comprehensive treatment plan, specifically designed to meet individual needs. Dr. Gonzalez’s clinical experiences have been extensive and broad-based, including clients of all ages ranging from ten months to 89 years old from diverse backgrounds with a variety of presenting problems and diagnoses. Her training and education have emphasized the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, and ADHD, as well as other, more severe, emotional and behavioral disorders. She has experience with various treatment modalities including play therapy, family therapy, individual therapy, and group therapy. Working with adolescent girls and women who struggle with emotional disorders, trauma, self-harm, disordered eating, poor self-worth, relational problems, attachment issues, boundary violations, sexuality, or parenting roles is both her specialty and her passion. Dr. Gonzalez often employs an eclectic individual treatment approach that begins with the development of skills drawn from DBT and CBT, providing some alleviation of the emotional pain that draws individuals into treatment. She then utilizes a relational, psychodynamic approach to explore life experiences while fostering the development of insight into unhealthy, maladaptive patterns.

 

Dr. Gonzalez received both her Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Gonzalez completed an APA-approved, pre-doctoral internship at the Allendale Association just north of Chicago, Illinois. While at the Allendale Association, Dr. Gonzalez provided individual, group, and family therapy within a residential treatment facility for youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders, many of whom had histories of abuse or neglect. She also provided individual, group, and family therapies to youth enrolled in an intensive, psychoeducational, day treatment program and to adults, adolescents, and children in an outpatient clinic. Dr. Gonzalez completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Positive Outcomes Psychological Services, a private practice in Athens, Georgia. During this fellowship, she sharpened her assessment skills, completing comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults while also providing psychotherapy. Dr. Gonzalez completed her undergraduate education, earning a Bachelor of Science in both Biology and Psychology, at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
