Transitions!
Transitions in a young person's life can be particularly challenging, such as entering middle school, high school or college. These new stages require an additional level of self-managementSM skills. For children who have attention disorders, learning problems, or other challenges, successful transitions into new stages may require special assistance. Our summer groups are designed to prepare them for the next stage. Through adequate preparation, difficulties are prevented, and every child can experience a successful transition.

Most psychologists and educators agree that the transition from elementary to middle school is far more than an increase in grade level â€" it represents a change in academic environment that coincides with important developmental changes. During this transition children are experiencing greater self-consciousness, a growth in critical and complex thinking, and an increase in the importance of peer relationships. At the same time, they are entering a new learning environment that involves a larger school with new children, different classrooms and teachers for each subject, and greater responsibility of assignments, personal supplies, and self organization. These simultaneous changes make this transition a time of difficulty for
many children.
