SELF-MANAGEMENT PARENTING GROUPDiane N. Roche, Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist, Tarnow Center for Self-Management : Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences : Baylor College of Medicine Social and interpersonal self-management skills develop in the con text of early attachment relationships: they are influenced by both biological factors and family/environmental factors. Throughout child hood, parents, teachers, and other adults provide support (in varying degrees at each developmental stage) to encourage the child's com petence. Parents can encourage self-management through the ap plication of specific strategies and can gain support and validation from other parents by learning in a group environment.
