ARTICLES ARCHIVEEducational Enrichment Summer Program
The old saying "Use It or Lose It" has proven to be very true in the learning arena. The more intensively appropriate behaviors and learning skills are practiced, the better the outcome is likely to be. The latest developments in neuroscience have demonstrated that the brain is able to change and "grow" new pathways through the life span. It is difficult to learn new skills if a pathway is not present. Therefore, before trying to teach a specific skill, like reading, it is very important that the brain have the ability to learn the skill. Based on this scientific research, therapeutic programs have been developed that are proving to be very effective in minimizing difficulties that interfere with a student's ability to reach his/her potential. When establishing new pathways in the brain and skills it is important that they be practiced intensively in a positive, rewarding environment. As a result, the Tarnow Center is offering an intensive summer program during the Summer. Students will be able to do multiple programs and therapies from 9am-6pm. Program components include: The Tarnow Center will select from the full roster of components those that will be most beneficial to your child and put together a summer program specifically tailored to your child's needs. Click on the links abouve to learn more about each program. **Interactive Metronome, FastForward and Cogmed are three components of the Tarnow Center's Educational Enrichment Summer Program. These components are effective on their own or in combination. Each of these program components make use of recent advances in brain science to address an underlying cause of learning difficulties. They can often provide significant improvements in learning without the use of stimulants or other drugs. Each students enrolled in the Tarnow Center Summer Educational Enrichment Program will be evaluated to determine which program components will best address their particular situation. To sign up for the Summer Education Enrichment Program, please call Uyen, intake coordinator, at 713-621-9515, ext. 227. |
